Long ago we set out to build Hampshires differently, recognizing the opportunity to focus on skeletal build and correctness. There’s no doubt H345 has been instrumental in those efforts but before him, a few key individuals need to be mentioned here. Top Gun was purchased from Norman Bros. when we bought the Fecke sow herd. His contribution to the breed is widely known and well documented but beyond the show ring accolades, he truly made Hampshires better – especially ours. In those years, we also made a female purchase from Wendt Livestock that was just cold blooded enough to make a difference. She was first recognized when her grandson was Champion at the STC, commanding $140,000 and earned the name “Cuss A Little.” Cuss sired good pigs for us, but with respect to our program, his sister has probably outdone him. His sister, 324-10, is the mother of Shout. Shout sired the Heckman gilt last summer that was 3rd Hamp at Expo, Champ Hamp & 4th Overall at NJSS and Champ Hamp & Supreme at IL State Fair. In addition, he recently sired the ‘other’ Everhart gilt that was 5th Overall at the recent Exposition. • And this is where it all comes together…Our quest to make better Hampshires will never be finished, however, we believe the steps forward will be easier with HH Floor Plan. His sire, H308 just sired the Champion Hampshire and Grand Overall Gilt at the Exposition. H308 is an Exclamation son out of H345’s mother. Floor Plan’s mother is 324-10, a Top Gun daughter and the mate to Cuss A Little that continues to show up when it counts. • At 100#, Floor Plan was everything we want in a Hampshire sire – impeccably correct in his skeleton, immature in his muscle and body, strong footed and well beyond his contemporaries in bone. He’s impressed at every stage of maturity and at this point, he’s the kind we’ll use with confidence. Much like the red boar, we seriously thought about showing this one in Des Moines, but ultimately decided to keep him on The Hill. • Semen will be available on a limited basis; however, we’re offering a unique opportunity for a couple of breeders who are ready to commit and are interested in making the process easier.
