When one is regarded as among the finest animals ever produced on the farm, a certain level of expectation naturally follows. His brother was named Champion Hampshire Barrow at the 2023 North American. His four sisters have become the foundation of the sow herd. His mother is the renowned Jackie 19-12. He is SMOKE SIGNAL. If SMOKE SIGNAL achieves even a portion of what those familiar with him believe he is capable of, he will secure his place among the most influential Hampshire sires of his generation. I still recall the day we traveled to Ada to evaluate RUMBLE. It took only moments to recognize that he possessed some of the most compelling traits we had encountered in the Hampshire breed. While not without flaws, his spread, density, dimension, and sheer power were exceptional. Coupled with the fact that he was bred by Hampshire legend Joe Lancaster, the decision was straightforward. We believed we had the ideal female for him. At that time, our focus was on establishing a foundation of consistent, productive females to strengthen the SAVAGE sow herd. The renowned “19” litter embodied exactly what we sought to create. Sired by HANDS DOWN, one of the breed’s most influential female-making boars, and out of a Point Maker 72-7 daughter acquired from the Earhart program, that litter would ultimately help define the future of our herd. Although we obtained only one litter from that sow, she left behind four daughters whose impact proved transformative. The standout was always Jackie 19-12. Today, she holds many distinctions, but she is most widely recognized as the mother of SMOKE SIGNAL. Her influence extends far beyond a single boar. Direct daughters and granddaughters now account for more than two-thirds of the SAVAGE sow herd. She has consistently demonstrated the ability to produce elite herd boars, foundation females, and champions. Her accomplishments include: • Mother of the Champion Hampshire Gilt at the 2024 Fall Expo, exhibited by the Newcomb Family and sired by LION SHARE. • Mother of the Reserve Purebred Hampshire Barrow at the 2025 OYE, exhibited by Ayden Johnson and sired by ICE COLD. The remaining sisters have established impressive legacies of their own. 19-9 is the mother of our herd boar TWISTED AFFAIR. 19-3, the most extreme female of the group, was unfortunately lost at an early age, but not before producing the Champion Hampshire and 4th Overall Gilt exhibited by Emma Garland at the 2024 NJSA. That gilt later became the $28,000 high-selling Hampshire gilt of the year and is now known as POCAHONTAS. In 2025, 19-8 emerged as the mother of the Champion Hampshire Gilt exhibited by the Grinstead family, which also became the top-selling gilt of the sale. By this point, it should be clear why we place such value on the maternal strength behind SMOKE SIGNAL. As for the boar himself, he is among the stoutest animals we have ever raised. Broad through his blades, massive in his skull, wide-centered, and loaded with genuine dimension and skeletal width, his proportions are exceptional. He combines substantial bone, outstanding foot and pastern quality, clean joints, and the durability necessary to make a lasting impact.
